Gift in Will

Imagine a world where our youth grow up confident and content. Where they are able to mentally and physically deal with the challenges life throws at them. What a resilient New Zealand we would have!

Leaving a gift in your Will to I Am Hope will help make a difference for generations to come.

It will ensure that the progress made to create positive societal attitudinal change will continue and children will have access to the counselling they need, the resources that support their journey and the knowledge that they are not alone.

A gift in your Will, whether it is large or small, is a huge act of Hope for our youth and we thank you for wanting to help in this way.

If you have any questions, we are happy to help answer these, and if you are happy to let us know that you have left a gift in your Will to I Am Hope, we would love the opportunity to say thank you and hear your story.

Gift in Will

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a gift in a Will?

A gift in a Will is a donation made to the organisation as part of your estate, to be paid after your death.

How large does a donation have to be, to be included in my Will?

Any donation, large or small, is gratefully accepted, as it all contributes to helping our youth through the various I Am Hope avenues.

Is it best to leave a dollar amount or a percentage of the value of my estate (the things you own) as a gift in Will?

How you structure your Will is a personal decision and people can choose from:

  • leaving a specific item,
  • a stated $ value,
  • a residue (the left over after you have taken care of family and loved ones) of the estate or
  • a % of the residue of your estate.

Often, a percentage works best as it is an easier way for the executors to manage the estate, and you do not have to make adjustments to your Will if your situation changes.

Your lawyer can help work out the way that works best for your situation and we are grateful for either type of donation and want you to make a donation that is easiest for you.

What is the recommended wording to use in my Will?

I_____________ leave free of all duties) to I Am Hope, Registered Charity number CC44260

  • a gift of____% of my estate
  • or $__________
  • residue of my estate
  • specific named item

to be used for general purposes.

I direct that the receipt from a Proper Office holder at I am Hope shall be a complete discharge to my executors.

Do I have to have a written Will?

To make a gift in your Will you do need to have a written and witnessed Will. Anyone over the age of 18 should have a Will to ensure your wishes are carried out and to make it easier for the loved ones you leave behind.

Why should I have a Will?

A written and witnessed Will ensures that your wishes are carried out and the executors have clear directions.

Any one in New Zealand with assets over $15,000 must have a Will or when you pass away, the estate will be considered Intestate and the Probate process will need to be processed through the High Court with High court costs.

This can make a difficult time even more difficult for loved ones you leave behind.

What is Probate?

Probate is the process completed when a decedent leaves assets to distribute, such as bank accounts, real estate, and financial investments. Probate is the general administration of a deceased person's Will or the estate of a deceased person without a Will.

What does Intestate mean?

Intestate refers to dying without a legal Will. When a person dies intestate, deciding how their assets will be distributed becomes the responsibility of a probate court. An intestate estate can also be one in which the Will presented to the court was deemed to be invalid.

What is an Executor?

An executor is a person or Trustee named in the Will or an administrator, if there is no Will, to complete the probate process. This involves collecting the deceased's assets to pay any remaining liabilities on their estate and distributing the assets to beneficiaries.

What is a Beneficiary?

A beneficiary is a person (or entity) who is designated (named) to receive the benefits of property owned by someone else. Beneficiaries often receive these benefits as part of an inheritance.

A beneficiary can be designated in the documents relating to a life insurance policy, a retirement account, a brokerage account, a bank account, and other financial products.

It's important to designate beneficiaries for your financial assets so that they can be distributed according to your wishes when you pass away.

What will I Am Hope use my donation for?

We will use your donation to ensure our youth have access to the counselling and resources they need to improve their mental health and know they are not alone in their journey.

What is a recognition program?

A recognition program is our way to show our appreciation for your pledged donation while you are still here for us to say thank you. We want to use the recognition program to keep your memory alive for those who come after you for generations to come.

There are various ways we can show our appreciation and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

Thank you for considering becoming a Legend of Hope.
